It appears that Apple won’t be the only company with a big announcement coming.
According to CNET, Amazon will debut two versions of its popular Kindle Fire tablet, with one coming with new hardware, and the other a slightly revamped original model.
Unlike earlier rumors, which suggested the Kindle Fire 2 would be a larger tablet, the new reports indicate both of the new tablets will remain at seven inches in size.
While it’s unclear if the two tablets will have different names, the new Kindle Fires will be decidedly different from a specs point of view.
Amazon’s Lucky 7s
By sticking with the seven-inch tablet, Amazon is clearly making a stand for where they want to establish their foothold in the tablet market.
With Google’s Nexus 7 already on the market, and the rumored iPad Mini supposedly arriving this year, the next wave of Kindle Fires has their work cut out for them.
Though one of the Kindle Fire tablets will retain much of the original’s charm and details, albeit at a supposedly cheaper price point, the newer model is believed to come with a host of more impressive features.
Along with a faster processor (possibly a quad-core Tegra), this upgraded Kindle Fire will reportedly include an HDMI port, a camera, physical volume controls, and more storage.
There are still no details on pricing for either of the new models; however, it’s believed the more basic model will come in at a lower price point, which could allow Amazon to continue pricing the newer Kindle Fire 2 at a $199 price point.
Everything about Amazon’s plan remains unknown in an official capacity for now, but with an event scheduled for the end of this week, we won’t have to wait long to find out.
