They might have grabbed all the headlines and might be seen by many as rivals to the iPad, but if you are India, investing in one of Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablets is NOT one of the wisest things you could do. Why? Well, consider these four reasons:
App Store will not work
Imagine an Android device in which you cannot download and install new applications. Well, that’s what the Kindle Fire will be in India, because India is not supported by Amazon. And before you ask, no, the Kindle Fire does not come with Google Play, the official Android app store that comes with almost all Android devices – and you cannot install it either. You can work around this but for that you will need a credit card from a country that supports the App Store.
Will not be able to purchase music or videos
It is not just apps that you will not be able to get on your Kindle Fire, if you use it in India. You will also not be able to purchase any music or videos to play on the device from the Amazon store, and transferring them from other sources is not going to be easy either. Even if you get it registered abroad, it will sense that you are in India and will not let you download music or videos.
No Amazon Prime
One of the charms of the Kindle Fire is that it comes with the Amazon Prime service, which gives you unlimited access to a massive library of video and lets you borrow and lend books from and to other Amazon Prime members. Every Kindle Fire comes with a free month of Amazon Prime services. No, it does not work in India.
No warranty
This is a no-brainer – if you get the Kindle Fire in India, you will not be able to avail of Amazon’s official warranty, as the device has not been officially released in the country. If something goes wrong, do NOT expect Amazon to come and bail you out.
