I wrote a book. I hadn’t intended for it to happen the way it did, but there you have it. It was quite the adventure too. I learned a lot about writing. I learned a lot about my own writing. It was a very personal experience and I’m really really glad I did it.
Writing the book wasn’t the half of it though. Editing ended up being more laborious and draining than I thought possible. Formatting the book for kindle made the editing seem like bumper cars.
Still, three revised uploads later I am almost completely happy with it. I don’t know if it possible to every feel like something is exactly what you wanted but for me, Prepare for Impact is about as close as I ever get.
The book is basically an inspirational motivational speech wrapped around what I learned in the process of burning out and then finding my center again. It’s for teachers who wish they could do better. It’s for teachers who don’t know how. It’s for teachers who feel discouraged and alone. It’s for teachers who have wondered if there might be more but still aren’t sure.
These are things I have been talking about to friends and colleagues for a few years now. I realized that I could talk to a lot more if I put it all down in writing. I wanted access to more faculty. I wanted to have a larger impact. As large as possible.
I think that’s what prompted me to sign up for the lightning round at Instructure Con last week. I had just finished the book and was still feeling it’s message very deeply. I couldn’t make anyone read my book, but five minutes was a lot of time. It was certainly enough time to say something important.
So that’s what I did. A 5 minutes speech that is my book in a caplet. Like a 100 calorie snack. So if you watch this video and you want more of this. If you need encouragement, I wrote this book. I’d love to share it with you. If this 5 minute speech got you on your feet and ready to change the world, heck yeah!
We win today.
