Former Texas LB Sergio Kindle cut by Baltimore Ravens | College ...

The Baltimore Ravens cut former Texas linebacker Sergio Kindle from their practice squad Monday. Kindle was the 43rd overall pick in the 2010 draft but spent his entire rookie season on the reserve/non-football injury list after fracturing his skull while falling down a flight of stairs. He played in one game last year and one game this season.

“It was kind of mutually agreed upon between the two of us,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh told the Associated Press. “He’s hoping for an opportunity somewhere where he can maybe take the next step.”

Kindle, a former five-star recruit from Dallas’ Woodrow Wilson High School, was a two-year starter with the Longhorns at OLB and DE. He earned first-team All Big 12 honors as a junior and senior, and was the first player in college football history to be named a finalist for both the Butkus (top linebacker) and Hendricks awards (top defensive end).

Texas was well-represented in the 2010 draft, but the results have been a mixed bag so far for the Longhorns. S Earl Thomas was named to his second consecutive Pro Bowl this season after starring for the Seattle Seahawks, while DE Lamarr Houston has become a regular presence with the Oakland Raiders. But Kindle (2nd round), WR Jordan Shipley (3rd round), QB Colt McCoy (3rd round) and LB Roddrick Muckelroy (4th round) have all struggled to find their footing in the NFL.
