I’m Dana. I’m seven. Mommy’s name is Gita Knurr. I live at 1327 Walnut Street. Daddy doesn’t live with us. Mommy says he died a hero in some war or another far away. I’m not sure I have a daddy. I think he’s something she made up like Santa Claus or Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy. Stacy’s daddy died in war, and her house is full of pictures. There’s even one where Stacy’s Mommy is all gussied up in white, and her daddy’s in a Navy uniform. There are no pictures of my daddy anywhere in our house. I never ask about that though. That only makes my mommy cry, and I don’t mind, I really don’t, that I don’t have a daddy here. Hardly any of the kids I play with do.
