Kindle Fire compatibility « Electric Prayer

Posted by universalis on 15 November 2012

The Universalis app for Android requires at least Version 4.0 of Android.

The new Kindle Fire uses a modified version of Android 4.0, so Universalis will work on it. The old Kindle Fire uses a modified version of Android 2.3, so Universalis will not work on it.

We have been warned by an unhappy customer that the morons at Amazon are selling you the Universalis app even if you only have an old Kindle Fire. This will not work. It is either dishonest or incompetent of Amazon to sell an app for a system on which it will not work.

If you have an old Kindle Fire, and you buy the Universalis app for it and it refuses to install, tell Amazon to refund your money. They should never have sold it to you in the first place.

If you aren’t sure whether you have an old Kindle Fire or a new one, check the system version. If it looks like “6.3.1″ then you have the old Kindle Fire. If it looks like “10.2.1″ then you have a new one.

We have no control or influence over how Amazon choose to sell software, and if they decide to sell our apps for a system they know those apps will not work on, the only way we can stop them is by withdrawing the apps altogether.

(Google, in this instance at least, are honest: Google Play only offers software for devices which can run that software).
