Amazon has started shipping the latest version of its famed Kindle eReader named Kindle Paperwhite which was announced during the company’s press event on September 6.
With this eReader, Amazon has finally launched an eReader equipped with the backlight.
Talking about this new device, the vice president of Amazon Kindle Jay Marine said that “Kindle Paperwhite is the most advanced e-reader ever created and the Kindle we always wanted to build.
Pre-orders have far exceeded our expectations and we’re excited to start shipping Kindle Paperwhite to customers today.”
Pre-orders for the device started soon after the September 6 press release. With the launch of Kindle Paperwhite, Amazon would now be offering three different Kindle eReaders.
According to Amazon, Kindle Paperwhite facilitates 25 percent better contrast along with its impressive E-Ink matte screen.
Besides, the Kindle screen is also very suitable for reading even under bright sun light, an issue that has been quite problematic for other tablets.
The power-sipping e-ink technology of Kindle Paperwhite would facilitate a battery life of 8 eight weeks with a single charge.
However, this has been based on the estimate that the device would be used for 30 minutes per days with WiFi off and backlight on at level 10. In terms of hours, the device would be able to last for 28 hours after a single charge.
Initial reviews about Kindle Paperwhite have been highly positive.
According to Cory Gunther, a tech analyst from Slashgear, Kindle Paperwhite provides an enhanced reading experience under any kind of lighting situation and good thing is that it only costs $119.
Besides, it has also been pointed out that the distribution of light on Kindle Paperwhite is better compared to Barnes & Noble Nook with Glowlight.
Another tech analyst, Roberto Baldwin from Wired said that everything on Paperwhite is done onscreen and there are no physical buttons on the device beyond the sleep button.
However, this might be a bit problematic for people who are not very used to touchscreen based operations for all the settings.
The WiFi version of Kindle Paperwhite is available at a price of $119. However, to get rid of the usual ads that appear on Kindle devices, users would have to pay $20 extra.
The 3G version of the device, on the other hand, is available for $179 with ads and $199 without them.
