What You Can Get for Your Old Kindle : TreeHugger

Amazon has just announced its new lineup of Kindle devices, which comes only nine months after the last Kindle release. Some of the new models will start shipping this week. If you're a current Kindle owner, hopefully you'll be holding onto and using your device for as long as possible, but sometimes upgrades are necessary. If you're ready to purchase one of the new models, reselling your old device will help to extend its life and keep it out of a landfill and let someone else have access to a still-working model at a lower price.

There are many options for reselling your old Kindle -- yesterday I told you about five places that are buying older Kindle models. Here are the going rates for some of the previous generations as quoted by Amazon, NextWorth and eBay to give you an idea of what you could make from recycling your old model.

Kindle Fire

Amazon - up to $83.50

NextWorth - up to $66.25

eBay - current bids from $60.00 - $115.00

Kindle Touch 3G

Amazon - up to $23.00

NextWorth - up to $27.69

eBay - current bids from $40.00 - $50.00

Kindle DX, 2nd Generation

Amazon - up to $76.00

NextWorth - up to $89.30

eBay - current bids from $90.00 - $163.00

Kindle, Wi-Fi, E-Ink Display

Amazon - up to $32.00

NextWorth - up to $23.49

eBay - current bids $40.00 - $60.00

Kindle 2nd Generation

Amazon - up to $21.50

NextWorth - up to $10.19

eBay - current bids $25.00 - $50.00

Kindle 1st Generation

Amazon - up to $18.25

NextWorth - $9.96

eBay - current bids $10.00 - $25.00

The rates will vary based on the condition of your device and the demand for it at the time, but as you can see, even the first generation Kindles are still worth something and the piece of mind you'll have knowing that you're not contributing to the growing e-waste problem will be priceless.
