The Kindle fills a completely different niche to that of the iPad. It focuses on the ‘electronic paper’ concept, which means easy on the eyes reflective displays (no backlight), and very low power consumption. This isn’t something which can be combined with the LCD of an iPad, yet, so the two distinct classes of device comfortably coexist.


Yes, e-books are cheaper than tablets, but calling them a ‘poor man’s iPad’ is a gross oversimplification.
