Amazon has officially unveiled its long-awaited sequel to the Kindle Fire, just a few days after the original version sold out completely. The service-orientated slate (as opposed to a gadget, which Jeff Bezos claims nobody wants) comes with a new processor, 1GB RAM -- double that of the 2011 model -- and performance that's apparently 44 percent better than the original Fire. The tablet, which now plays second-fiddle to the Kindle Fire HD, will be shipping from September 14th, priced at $159.
Unsurprisingly, the company has had to reduce its price to better fend-off competition from Google's $199 Nexus 7, as well as Kobo's new Arc and the forthcoming Nook Tablet replacement with an "incredible" 243ppi display.
