Amazon backtracks, will offer $15 opt-out for ads on Kindle Fire tablets


You'd be forgiven for wondering just what Amazon was up to with Special Offers ads on the Kindle Fire HD: we were given the hope that we could opt out.


Reuters) Amazon CEO Bezos demonstrates the Kindle Paperwhite during Amazon's Kindle Fire event in Santa Monica. After the Paperwhite and Kindle Fire HD 7" and 8.9" models were announced, tech journalists were let loose to try out the new devices.

It's bad enough that the new Kindle Fire tablets – the revamped 1st-gen model and the three HD successors – will be ad-supported. No one really wants to see adverts on their screen when the gadget goes idle. Yet considering what the company has packed
